The Fumigation Certificate Service as per ISPM-15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) is a documentation process provided by authorized fumigation service providers. It ensures compliance with the ISPM-15 regulations for wood packaging materials (WPM) used in international trade.
ISPM-15 was developed to prevent the spread of pests and diseases through wooden packaging materials. It requires that all solid wood packaging, such as pallets, crates, and dunnage, undergo an approved fumigation treatment.
The Fumigation Certificate is issued after the wood packaging materials have been properly fumigated with an approved fumigant, following the prescribed dosage and exposure time. The certificate includes critical information such as the treatment method, date of fumigation, fumigant used, and the unique identification number of the treatment provider.
The Fumigation Certificate serves as evidence that the wood packaging materials have been treated according to ISPM-15 standards and are considered pest-free. It is a crucial document for exporters and importers to demonstrate compliance with phytosanitary regulations at customs checkpoints in the destination country.
By obtaining a Fumigation Certificate as per ISPM-15, exporters can ensure smooth international trade, prevent delays or rejections of shipments, and contribute to the protection of global plant health and the prevention of the spread of pests and diseases through wood packaging materials.

ISPM 15 stands for International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15, and it is a standard established by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) to reduce the risk of spreading pests through international trade. The standard requires that all solid wood packaging materials, including pallets and crates, must be heat-treated or fumigated with methyl bromide to kill any pests that may be present. The wood must also be marked with a specific stamp or marking to indicate compliance with the standard. ISPM 15 is now mandatory for many countries, and failure to comply can result in shipment rejection or even fines. The standard helps protect both plant health and international trade. It is use methyl bromide as a fumigant to eleminate cross infestation from wooden packing materials with the dose 48 gm per qubic meter at 21 degree Celsius for 24 hours.
